Getting Into the Groove

It's great to have you on board! Now that I have our current class receiving our classroom blog, I can fill you in with what we've been up to. The past 9 days have been spent getting to know one another and establishing classroom routines. We have been doing a lot of work establishing our classroom guidelines. are already experts in reading and writing workshop, started our first unit in math, have had regular class meetings and that's not all!

New book baggies and reading logs went home on Monday. Like the orange folder, book baggies are to be returned to school everyday. The goal if for your child to read at least 100 minutes a week, outside of school. Reading logs are collected on Mondays.

Parents sure have a lot of homework to begin the year! Please take this time to complete the volunteer form I sent home and the paperwork from the QAE school packet. There is also a $50.00 fee to cover classroom supplies. If you haven't done so already, please make checks to the order of QAE and send to school at your earliest convenience.

Further updates will be on the way! We will read our blogs as a class and share comments left by all of you. Please let us know you're out there by leaving comments and asking questions.

Many thanks to:
Ms. Heike for joining our class and student teaching in the winter
Mr. Jeffrey for helping us launch 2nd grade ST Math
Karen Lonergan for taking on the Class Coordinator role and keeping us updated with weekly emails

We're so excited to start following Ms. Leckie's class blog! I especially love the pictures with the explanatory captions. They really capture the scenes of the day, so we get a feel for what's happening. And the silly "classroom job" picture cut-outs are my favorite! Wyatt showed them to us this morning. Thanks so much for all of your hard work. It's going to be a great year in second grade!

Love all the photos! I especially love the job chart. Nate told me all about how much fun he is having being the "expert"
Nate also was telling me how neat it was that your "Tita Ces" came to class to show them how to draw with chalk pastels :)
It's going to be a great year!

Thanks for giving us a peek inside your classroom! I love to see what you all are up to. Its great to see everyone working together. How are classroom expectations for 2nd grade different from expectations for kindergarten or 1st grade?

Thank you for your comments. To answer Alison's question about how are expectations for 2nd grade different than kindergarten and first grade we came up with this:
Madeline says that we learn more difficult things in 2nd grade so we need to stay focused longer.
Juliette says we only have 2 recesses so we are in class longer and need great expectations.
We have a new blog that explains the expectations we came up with, I hope this helps answer some questions.
